Self-Care vs. Being Lazy

We all have those days. You know the kind of days I’m talking about. Those days where you just want to crawl into bed, hide under the covers and finally have a moment to yourself just to breathe. Then there are the other days. The days where you’ve been sitting in your bathrobe since 10am, watching Gilmore Girls and Tik Tok.

Those two days are vastly different, and not that anyone asked, but I’m here to talk about it.

I’m going to paint a picture, two pictures actually. The first picture describes one of those days. A long day of work just finished. You’ve spent eight hours on your feet, or eight hours in a chair, or hell – maybe you didn’t even work on this day. Maybe you just had the worst day of your life and everything just seems to be going wrong. On days like these, you need a minute. On days like these you need to take a look at yourself. On days like these, when the gym seems like just another chore that you must get done – you don’t.

You stay home. You draw yourself a bubble bath or make yourself a nice dinner. You paint your nails, put on a face mask, and fill your diffuser with your favorite oils. You crawl into bed and save the gym for another day. You relax, destress, and breathe.

On days like these, when you’re so close to burning-out, or maybe you’re already there, you need to refocus and take care of you.

Then there’s the other days. The day where you’ve been lounging on the couch all day, Friends on the TV and Instagram stories on your phone. You don’t feel warn out, you just feel so comfortable on the couch that the thought of you moving seems exhausting.

Sometimes those days are okay! Sometimes you just skip the gym today, you enjoy your day off and you finish the series. However, these days lead into more days – I know, because I’ve been there.

These are called the lazy days. They’re not to be confused with your rest days or your self care days. They’re lazy days.

Lazy Girl, I don’t blame you! The gym can get boring and when you are so comfortable in

your robe and fuzzy socks – the gym just sounds like the last thing you’d want to do.

These are the days where you’ve got to do something! Anything at all! Go walk your dog around the block, go for a hike with some friends, or close out of that Sarah’s Day - Day in the Life Vlog, and click on an at home work out! Bust it out! Then you can go back to the couch cushions and feel like you’ve achieved something.

I want to repeat, these lazy days are okay! They’re okay when it’s one – not when it’s six days in a row and you’ve lost sight of the life you strived for completely.

I guess that’s why I wanted to write about this possibly controversial topic. There are self-care days, and there’s lazy days. Neither are days you should be ashamed about and both days you deserve.

I think there just becomes a point when one of those days is an excuse and I don’t want anyone to get them confused.

As always, tell me how you feel in the comments below (:
